“When we were kids in the back yard Playing astronauts and rock stars No one told us to stop it Called us unrealistic Then suddenly you're eighteen Go to college for your Plan B What you want is too risky Live for weekends and whiskey

We all got these big ideas One day they're replaced with fears How did we get here?

[Chorus]

Darlin' don't quit your daydream It's your life that you're making It ain't big enough if it doesn't scare the hell out of you If it makes you nervous It's probably worth it Why save it for sleep when you could be Living your daydream

Thirty-one waiting tables She has the voice of an angel Out of money and power She only sings in the shower

All these things we say we'll get to Shot down by the reasons not to

[Chorus]

So scared of failure that we fail to try Turnin' around before the finish line Gotta fall for a minute before you can fly"

When you’re a kid, fear isn’t part of the equation. You see, then you do. You don’t see, worry what everyone else might think, think about everything that could go wrong, why it might not work out, and then rationalize why it’s not a good idea.

But naturally, we let fear creep in more and more as time goes on. We start scaling back our goals and rationalizing them based on what others think, what others do, and what we tell ourselves is more realistic.

What if, like when we were kids, fear didn’t get in the way and guide our decisions? What would be different? Not just for the “astronauts and rock stars” dreams, but for the more practical things, as well.

Would you be approaching your current role at work the same way? What about your life, in general?

How much more enjoyable would it be?

How much more would you be capable of?

What example would you be setting for your kids or those you care about?

How much more exciting would your future be?

If the song lyrics or commentary resonate with you as they do with me, don’t be inspired only for a moment. Take that and put it into action. You can absolutely make it a reality.
